We all know what a beauty mark is, right? It’s that little birthmark, mole, or dark spot that sets you apart and is often considered beautiful in the world. I have my own beauty mark. But have you ever heard of beauty scars?
I like to believe my scars are part of God’s tapestry—delicately woven into my body to bring Him glory. Each scar was knitted with care, just as He formed the universe, each with its own unique characteristic.
Honestly, I hated my scars for a long time. I wanted them gone. I would beg God to remove them, to make me "normal." They were a constant reminder of the pain I’d endured, something I had to face every single day. It was the one thing I hated the most. But God redeemed that. He taught me that beauty can be found in my scars, and that they are, in fact, His tapestry.
Tonight, I shared my testimony and talked about my new love for my scars and my story. As I spoke, something hit me: Jesus has scars in the flesh. He specifically showed Thomas His scars to help him believe. I wear scars because through them, others can see the glory of God written on my skin.
But how do you come to love your scars and imperfections? Here’s what helped me:
• Change your perspective. Stop calling your scars ugly or judging their healing. Don’t refer to them as "scars"—call them your skin. Replace negative words with positive ones that align with your body’s journey.
• Turn to God. Share your desires with Him, and trust that He will transform your heart. You just need to ask and be open to His guidance.
• Find your voice. Each scar is a testimony to God. Each one tells a piece of His story and His glory. So share your story when you're ready—if you feel safe and comfortable doing so. Don’t feel pressured.
One of the things that’s helped me most is art. Find the art in your body. Find the beauty in your scars. See each unique piece as part of a masterpiece. If you have many scars, modeling clay can even sculpt them into beautiful art pieces. I do this often when I start to dislike something about myself—it helps me reconnect with the beauty of it all.
So, come back to your first love—Jesus and His scars. And then begin to love yours, because they are a unique story that God has chosen YOU to proudly wear.

Dear Kelaay,
Thank you for sharing your story. I thank God that He has sustained you and revealed to you the inner beauty of His love. I pray He uses you to share His everlasting life to all those He brings into your life carrying the scars of a sin fallen world.
To God be the glory. It is not I who live but Christ who lives in me.
