Be Creative without Fear

I’ll be honest with you—there’s something I’ve struggled with for a long time: the fear of man. Basically, it’s that deep insecurity about what people might think of me, and it tends to sneak in during three specific situations:

1. Working out in front of others (we’ll talk about that another day)

2. Speaking or teaching in front of people (also a story for later)

3. And the one I want to share today—being creative.

Creativity always felt like a closed door to me. Growing up, I genuinely tried to be “artistic.” I remember working so hard on school art projects, pouring everything into them. Once a year, our school would host art shows for all students, K through 12. And one time—just once—I got a judge’s mention.

That should’ve made me proud, but honestly, it crushed me. I felt like my effort didn’t measure up. Meanwhile, my sister? She was a natural. She’d win awards and get all kinds of recognition for her talent. And though I was happy for her, there was a part of me that hurt deeply. I quietly told myself: "I’m just not creative. It’s not for me."

So, I stopped trying.

But God.

He’s been doing something in my heart over the years—slowly, lovingly reminding me that He is a creative God. Just look around—sunsets, flowers, oceans, intricate designs in nature, color, music, laughter. He is the Author of beauty and design.

Genesis 1:27 says, "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

If we’re made in His image, that means creativity is in us too. Not to win awards, not to impress others, but to reflect our Creator and bring beauty and meaning into the world.

So, I began taking baby steps back into creativity. Nothing fancy. No pressure. Just simple, joyful making. Whether that is art through words like this blog or through drawing or beading.

One of the most recent things I created was a line of little faux succulents for Made For More Crafts. They’re small, sweet, and they’ll never die—perfect for people who love the *look* of plants but tend to forget to water them. They were fun to make, and honestly, therapeutic.

But even as I made them, fear crept in: *What if no one likes them? What if they think I’m silly? What if this just isn’t good enough?*

And yet—I kept going. Because I knew I wasn’t creating to prove something. I was creating to participate in something. Something holy. Something that reflects God's character.

Exodus 35:35 talks about how God gave certain people “skill to do all kinds of work… all of them skilled workers and designers.” That same God still gifts and equips people today to make, to build, to write, to paint, to grow, to sew, to design. He gives us inspiration not just for ourselves, but to bless others.

So here I am. Still learning. Still growing. Still stepping through fear and into freedom.

If you’ve ever told yourself you’re not creative: I want to gently challenge that. You ARE creative. It may not look like painting or crafting or drawing. Maybe it’s the way you decorate your home, cook a meal, write your thoughts, organize chaos, speak life, make people laugh, or dream new ideas. Creativity isn’t about perfection. It’s about reflecting the beauty of the One who made us.

And if you're curious about Made For More Crafts—whether you're looking for a meaningful gift, a little pop of joy for your home, or you just want to support something handmade with heart—I’d love to connect with you. You can email us anytime. Your support, encouragement, and even just your kind words mean more than you know.

Remember: you were created on purpose, for a purpose, and with purpose.

Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

You were made for more.

Welcome! I’m truly honored to have you here. This blog was born from a deep desire to inspire and uplift others, serving as a beacon of hope in challenging times. As a trauma survivor, I have had my fair share of challenges and obstacles. However, there was a reason I made it through each and every one of those moments. I always say, if I can help just one person with anything I have been through, then all the pain is worth it. Afterall, this is His Story not mine
